2018 Nissan X-Trail: Update, Changes, New Engine, Price

Nissan X-Trail is globally available mid-size crossover SUV.
This model sits below the Xterra and Pathfinder in brand’s
lineup. This model isn’t available in the US but the closely
related Rogue that sits on the same platform is being sold the
stateside. The X-trail is currently available in the second
generation form which has been available since the 2014 model
year. An updated version of this model should come sometime in
2017 probably as the 2018 Nissan X-Trail.

What should be new?

As per some reports, the new X-Trail should come as an updated
but not redesigned vehicle. Details are still scarce but the
model should bring usual upgrades as the every facelift. It
should add more powerful diesel engine, updated styling, and
interior. There should also be some tech upgrades related with
ones on the new Qashqai model.

2018 Nissan X-Trail: Design update

At the time of writing of this article, exact details about the
styling changes are still out of reach. However, the new 2018
Nissan X-Trail should get refreshed front and rear fascia. The
signature V-motion grille should get a more pronounced form
which will have the 3D effect similar to that on the updated
Pathfinder. The model will likely get refreshed headlights and
front bumper design as well. It should also replace the current
round fog lights with more modern LED strips.

The rear fascia should also get the similar treatment. That
means refreshed taillights and rear bumper.

Interior:

Inside the cabin, the new X-Trail should feature very similar
design as the Qashqai. It will exhibit high-quality soft
padding and great build quality. The simple but attractive dash
will house center screen and other controls. The model will
also include very comfortable “Zero gravity” seats which will
also provide additional power, heating, and cooling features.

On the other hand, the practicality will also remain one of the
main X-Trails advantages and it will offer class-leading
interior space. Well-arranged seats will provide optimal leg
and headroom and also great visibility. The X-Trail will also
offer competitive boot space.

Tech and Safety updates:

Techwise, the model will get the latest NissanConnect
interface. The center screen will dominate in the dash and will
control navigation and entertainment features. There will also
be a strong sound system, HD radio, modern connectivity options
and more.

What is also important, the new X-Trail might get the new
ProPilot suite which should debut on the new Qashqai. This
system should provide some level of autonomous driving,
allowing the car single line driving on the highway or during
the heavy traffic.

2018 Nissan X-Trail: Powertrains

In the engine department, the 2018 Nissan X-Trail should offer
a new more powerful diesel engine. The automaker wants to be
competitive with other SUVs which offer more powerful options.
There belong the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa FE and Skoda
Kodiaq. They all offer engine option with outputs around 190 hp
and Nissan is keen to provide a good alternative for them. The
new 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel will meet Euro 6 standards
and will be good for around 175 hp and 380 Nm of torque. It
should come with either 6-speed manual or CVT transmission.
There will also be an option between two- and all-wheel drive.

The X-Trail will also be available with a 1.6-liter diesel and
1.6-liter turbocharged petrol unit.
